After decades of intrigue, Aretha Franklin's little-seen but much-praised gospel film will finally hit theaters nationwide in April — culminating a saga that started in a church nearly half a century ago.
"Amazing Grace," documenting the recording of Franklin's best-selling album of the same name, is officially set for a 1,000-screen theatrical release on April 19, which is Good Friday.
The date was confirmed by producer Alan Elliott and a representative of the Franklin estate, on the heels of a trailer that has been showing in AMC cinemas for the past week. The film was picked up last year by New York distributor Neon.
